"Living with kidney disease"
Hello, my name is Glenda V. Roberts. I received a kidney transplant on December 8, 2010 at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. Many of my family, friends, colleagues and neighbors are aware of my health condition. (For an update, please read the above articles published in the Woodinville Weekly."). In the last quarter of 2009, I was placed on the Kidney Transplant List, as well as, the Living Donor Exchange List at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle Washington. Many have asked, "What can I do to personally help and support you?" My first response is to ask you to consider becoming a living donor. If you or some you know is interested, please contact the UW Medical Transplant program at 206-598-3627. Tell them that you are interested in being a donor for me "Glenda V. Roberts" or someone else. It is a completely confidential process.
A recent study confirms that being a living donor does not shorten the donors life. If you can't be an organ donor, please make a contribution or volunteer to help with the OUI Works Living Donor Assistance Program. It will help me, as well as many other individuals, cover some of the uninsured travel & living expenses, as we move forward with our lives. Also, please share my story with your family, friends and associates. Soon one quarter of the population will suffer from chronic kidney disease. It is important that we increase awareness of this looming threat. People have asked me “Why should I care about kidney disease or kidney transplants?” (More)
